YouTube has announced that it is working on new technologies to combat deepfakes and safeguard its artists and creators from unauthorized AI-generated content.
The social media platform has will be rolling out tools to help creators tackle the challenge of AI and protect themselves and has provided numerous details in a recent blog post.
One of the main tools s a new “synthetic singing identification technology” within Content ID. This will allow people to automatically detect and manage AI-generated content that uses their singing voices. A pilot program for this tool is expected to launch early next year.
The second tool is a likeness management system that will enable people from a variety of industries, ranging from creators and actors to musicians and athletes, to detect and manage AI-generated content showing their faces on YouTube. So, if a deepfake appears with a creator’s face, they will be able to effectively identity and take action against it.
In addition to these announcements, YouTube has recently provided users with privacy updates to safeguard their social media experience.
YouTube’s stance on AI and content creation:
Amjad Hanif, YouTube’s vice president of creator products, has said:
“We believe AI should enhance human creativity, not replace it. We’re committed to working with our partners to ensure future advancements amplify their voices, and we’ll continue to develop guardrails to address concerns and achieve our common goals.”
Thus, these new tools indicate YouTube’s desire to balance the benefits of AI in content creation while respecting and protecting the rights of its creators.
