Google celebrates “25 years in search”

Bollywood and cricket are among some of the most searched options worldwide.

Google has been celebrating a dazzling milestone by marking its 25th anniversary in the field of search. As part of this celebration, they’ve launched a commemorative video, “Google – 25 Years in Search: The Most Searched”, taking its audiences on a nostalgic journey by revealing the most searched people, places and things over its long history.

25 years ago the world stared to search,” their video read. “The rest is history.”

What were the most searched topics in Google’s quarter-of-a-century history?

The video begins with some of Earth’s landmark achievements: Neil Armstrong’s historic moon landing to Sally Ride’s importance as America’s first women astronaut. It then takes you across a spellbinding voyage across time to various points of interest. These include some of the world’s most popular faces such as Bono, Malala Yousafzai, Shah Rukh Khan, and Tina Turner all appearing in this montage.

India also featured heavily throughout the video. Bollywood was Google’s most searched movie genre, and actress Kiara Advani has claimed the spot as the second most searched actresses worldwide. Cricket also occupied a major spot: Virat Kohli was the world’s most searched cricketer, and rising cricket sensation Shubman Gill also made it on the list as one of the top ten most searched athletes across the world.
