Ahmedabad: In a significant step towards environmental responsibility, CLEAR Premium Water, one of India’s leading packaged drinking water brands, has installed benches made from recycled plastic bottles at Maharana Pratap Sports College (MPSC) Dehradun, as part of its collaboration with 38th National Games. The initiative showcases the brand’s commitment to reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable innovation in public spaces.
The installation was carried out in the presence of Uttarakhand’s Sports Minister, Rekha Arya, following the conclusion of the national sporting event.
Developed under CLEAR Premium Water’s “Drink, Dispose and Transform” campaign, the benches have been built from recycled PET (rPET) bottles and symbolize the tangible outcomes of responsible waste management. The initiative focuses on collecting plastic bottle waste, processing it into high-quality rPET granules, and repurposing them into products like PET bottles, benches, and textiles, further reducing landfill waste and promoting green solutions.
A total of nine lakh plastic bottles were collected, of which six lakhs were collected in the pre-event phase and three lakhs during the event. One lakh bottles were segregated at source across 11 venues and repurposed into durable public seating, preventing them from ending up in landfills and reducing carbon emissions. The initiative not only demonstrates the potential of recycling but also promotes the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Mission Life.
Rekha Arya, Sports Minister of Uttarakhand, said, “The installation of recycled benches at MPSC Dehradun, in partnership with CLEAR Premium Water, showcases our commitment to sustainability. By transforming plastic waste into public utilities, we are driving a circular economy and reinforcing our vision for a cleaner, greener future.”
Nayan Shah, Founder & CEO of CLEAR Premium Water, said, “The installation of recycled benches at MPSC Dehradun reflects our belief that sustainability must be driven by practical, real-world solutions. By transforming used plastic bottles into public utilities, we are closing the loop on plastic waste and creating a model for environmental action that directly benefits the people. The initiative showcases the potential of circular economy solutions, where even discarded bottles are turned into something meaningful. With this drive, we are leading the way and showing to the world that Mission Zero Plastics Bottle Waste is achievable with collective commitment and efforts.”
The project also highlights the vital contribution of local waste collectors and ragpickers, whose role in collecting plastic waste has been integral to the initiative’s success. The activity involved empowering 200+ ragpickers and 100 cleaning staff across 11 venues. With their efforts, lakhs of bottles were retrieved and repurposed, reducing nearly 10,000 kilos of carbon emissions, saving 2.67 lakh megajoules of energy, and using 7.5% of green energy in the end-to-end process. The initiative helped recover thousands of bottles from the waste stream, showcasing how collective involvement can amplify the impact of corporate sustainability programmes.
CLEAR Premium Water’s Mission Zero drive made history at the 38th National Games, becoming India’s first national event, and the second after the Olympics, to drive a large-scale green movement. This sets the stage for future events, including the 2036 Olympics in India. By working closely with municipal bodies and environmental organizations, CLEAR Premium Water aims to drive long-term, systemic change in plastic waste management through education, awareness, and proactive environmental initiatives.
By pioneering such transformative projects, CLEAR Premium Water continues to set a fine example for responsible corporate action, proving that sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand to build a better future.
