ASCI REQUESTS DABUR TO EDIT ITS CHYAWANPRASH PRINT AD DUE TO FALSE CLAIMS

The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has requested Dabur to modify or delete a Chyawanprash advertisement claiming Covid security. The March (2021) print ad stated that it was protected against COVID-19 by taking 2 spoons of the substance every day.

Akshay Kumar, an actor, said the argument was supported by clinical studies. The brand and Akshay Kumar both were criticized on social media with some users urgently urged ASCI to examine the topic.

Following a formal complaint, ASCI opened an inquiry and discovered that “Dabur Chyawanprash has immunity building properties, however, it was not established whether the product could protect one against Coronavirus.”

The Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) of ASCI maintained after a study of Dabur reports and evidence that the proposition “is confusing with distortion and speculation and may lead to widespread consumer dissatisfaction.”

Dabur was told by ASCI “to amend or revoke the commercial appropriately” by 4 June 2021.

In the meantime, Dabur has launched another product in the market known as the ‘KoviRakshak kit’ includes Chyawanprash along with Giloy, Tulsi and Juri-Tap tablets which they claim would help in the battle against Covid.

Dabur maintains, after a careful examination of contaminated patients, that the KoviRakshak kit is designed and implemented on the basis of ICMR guidelines.
