Popular content creator and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, has landed in hot water following controversial remarks made on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
His comments, which involved discussions about parents and sex, triggered a massive public backlash, leading to police complaints, government intervention, and even a parliamentary debate.
The incident unfolded on India’s Got Latent, a YouTube talent show hosted by comedian Samay Raina, which has amassed millions of viewers. Allahbadia, along with fellow panelists including Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, and content creator Apoorva Makhija (popularly known as The Rebel Kid), engaged in discussions that were later deemed inappropriate and offensive. The remarks quickly gained traction on social media, sparking outrage.
As the controversy escalated, an FIR was registered in Assam against Allahbadia and the other panelists, citing charges of promoting obscenity and engaging in vulgar discussions. Assam Chief Minister took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to confirm the legal action. Additionally, the Maharashtra cyber department has also initiated an inquiry under the Information Technology Act, further tightening the legal scrutiny around the case.
The controversy took a serious turn when the matter was raised in the Indian Parliament. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske called for stricter regulations on social media content, emphasizing the need for new laws to curb the spread of inappropriate material. Following this, the Indian government instructed YouTube to remove the controversial episode from its platform, further cementing the severity of the backlash.
Adding to the growing pressure, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the issue and summoned all individuals involved, including Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, Jaspreet Singh, and Ashish Chanchlani. They, along with the show’s producers, have been asked to appear before the NCW on February 17 in New Delhi for further questioning.
In light of the growing controversy, Allahbadia took to social media on Monday to issue a public apology, acknowledging his mistake and expressing regret over his remarks. However, the damage was already done, and his apology did little to quell the widespread criticism.
In response to the uproar, Samay Raina announced on social media that he has removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube. He also stated his willingness to cooperate with authorities to ensure a fair investigation. Raina, who is currently on a comedy tour in the US, has reportedly faced show cancellations in Ahmedabad and Surat due to the controversy.
