Reliance Jio and IIT Bombay set to launch India’s ‘BharatGPT AI’

Reliance Jio Infocomm is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative in collaboration with IIT – the ‘Bharat GPT’ program.

This news was announced by Akash Ambani on Wednesday, who declared that this program aims to leverage the power of large language models and generative artificial intelligence in order to transform several sectors of the country.

Bharat GPT will presumably be developed as an AI for Jio telecom products which is activated by voice commands and gestures to minimize human research hours. Thus, it aims to vastly simplify the experience of using Jio across all platforms.

This is part of Jio’s broader goal, also known as “Jio 2.0”, which seeks to create a comprehensive system of development and explore the massive potential of artificial intelligence. Ambani dropped a hint about the launch of Jio 2.0 as well, but did not elaborate any further. He said: “We are working very hard to launch AI not only as a vertical inside our organization, but horizontally across all our sectors.”

Additionally, Ambani highlighted that the company is committed to launching new products and services in several domains, including media, communication and commerce, and that its plans for an operating system for televisions are underway for their launch. He also underscored the significance of AI in shaping the future of the country.

While the timeline for the release of Bharat GPT has not been announced yet, it is expected that the release date will be announced by Jio in early 2024.
