On the occasion of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti, Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company have joined hands to bring the first-of-its-kind film, “Raja Shivaji”.
The bilingual film will be directed by Riteish Deshmukh and will feature him in the titular role. The historical drama is set to bring to life the journey of a young Shivaji who rebelled against the mighty powers and eventually went on to become Raja Shivaji and establish Swarajya.

The story brings together Jio Studios with actors Riteish and Genelia’s Mumbai Flim Company. Its stunning music will be composed by Ajay–Atul, while itscinematography will be helmed by Santosh Sivan. This will mark Sivan’s his debut in Marathi cinema.
Riteish said: “In the annals of history, there emerges a figure that transcends mere mortal existence-a legend, an icon, an eternal flame of inspiration. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not a mere historical figure; he is an emotion, a timeless saga of valour, and a beacon of hope that has illuminated hearts for over three and a half centuries. A journey of epic proportions, depicting the rise of a boy who defied the invincible, sparking the flames of Swarajya. A rebel whose courage knew no bounds, he didn’t just rule land, he conquered hearts, earning the endearing title of ‘Raja Shivaji’. ”
The shooting will commence soon and the film is expected to hit the big screens in 2025. Other than Riteish, his wife Genelia Deshmukh has also joined the team as the producer.
