Instagram Launches New Option To Hide Like Counts On Posts
After years of testing the ability for users to hide like counts, Instagram and Facebook users will finally have the option to do so. Facebook acknowledged that the like counts have been displeasing and offensive to some of their users and have thus taken the initiative to make the visibility of the count optional.
Facebook said, "What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.
We’re looking for more ways to give people control over their experience. That’s why we announced new tools to allow people to filter offensive content from their DMs and gave people ways to control what they see and share on Facebook’s News Feed – like the Feed Filter Bar, Favorites Feed and Choose Who Can Comment."
Users now have the option to hide like counts on all posts on their respective feeds and also on their own posts so as to help users focus on the posts being shared rather than counting the number of likes received. Users can avail of this option by visiting the new Posts section in Settings and can turn off their Reaction Count setting.
