National, 25th September 2025 — Traya, India’s leading hair health brand, released the findings of an extensive internal study that sheds light on the alarming state of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in India. Surveying over 50,000 women, the study reveals a staggering diagnosis gap. While only 4–6% of women reported a formal PCOS diagnosis, nearly 40% showed symptoms strongly suggestive of the disorder. This means that for every woman diagnosed, nearly ten others go undiagnosed.
The regional breakdown is equally concerning, 42.5% of women in Eastern India report undiagnosed PCOS symptoms, while South, North and West are also not behind with 37.2%, 39.4% and 39.4% respectively. While all major urban hubs including Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru, nearly 40% of women remain at risk without proper medical intervention.
The impact of untreated PCOS extends far beyond irregular cycles, mood swings or weight concerns. It increases the risk of diabetes, severe hair fall, cardiovascular disease, hormonal imbalance, and serious mental health challenges like depression and anxiety, eroding both confidence and quality of life.
September observed globally as PCOS Awareness Month, is a reminder of the millions of women silently battling this chronic condition. PCOS is a chronic health condition that demands early recognition and holistic treatment. This means looking beyond quick fixes and addressing root causes through medical guidance, nutrition, stress management, and lifestyle support.
Traya’s research underscores a critical truth: PCOS is not niche, it is not rare, and it can no longer be ignored.
